the bike cave collective is well a collective in duluth run by anyone who wants to. The cave itself is the basement of a catholic worker house. Every friday the community members ride their bikes up to the coop to fill a trailer with food donations to take home and they bring all the food not needed to the food shelter. Well duluth police have taking to stopping and ticketting these cyclists. The first time 3 were riding and two cars were backed up behind them one girl was doored by a parked car (on accident) the cop issued the two others citiations for impeding traffic. What do we learn from this?
that the reward for getting doored is no ticket
The next week it happened again the two people first ticketed were riding plus one other. This time no cars slowed by the cyclists yet still they were issued tickets for impeding traffic. What the hell, what traffic was being impeded. A city bus typically slows down far more cars than cyclists do yet no one would ever ticket them.
week three group ride 9 people do the food run, no citations
safety in numbers, that was last week lets see whats up this one
the court date is sept 15, this is going to be a super important case because if the court finds them guilty it would mean cops could stop cyclists anywhere anytime just for being on the road in a business district, riding the legal two side by side whatever basically. well in duluth anyways
